Mental Disorder Portfolio #1 Directions

Case Study Directions.This will be due in class on Thursday 5/24.

We are now beginning our final unit which is on Mental disorders. After you have read the text covering DSM IV as well as Anxiety Disorders, you will then complete the first installment of your Mental disorder Case Study Portfolio project using specific language/terminology from the text.  The case study is simple: begin research in order to locate a sufferer of Agoraphobia. Thoroughly research this person's life and how this particular psychological disorder has impacted them personally, professionally, etc.

Your case study will need to be typed, approximately 500 words and should include the following info: 

1) Their name (not actual but "clinical" name), age, sex

2) Information as to when they first started experiencing the impact of the disorder (how did their life change, what parts of their life were negatively effected, etc.)

3) What form of psychiatric/psychological assistance they sought since being diagnosed with Agoraphobia

4) How these people are dealing with their disorder at the present time (have they managed to live a semi-normal life, are they able to have relationships, etc.)

5) picture of the person IF AVAILABLE.

AP Jury Research Questions

Answer the following background research questions in order to better prepare you to evaluate the case against Pope Pius XII. Be thorough and cite your sources after each response. This will be due at then end of the class on Friday 5/18.

1) Examine Eugenio Pacelli's professional career up to 1930. What events were critical in helping him ascend to the Catholic Church's highest position of power? What countries did he have relationships with as a low ranking cardinal?

2) Analyze and discuss how Cardinal Pacelli served as Pope Pius XI's #2 man. Did Pacelli simply take orders from his Pope boss or did he carry out duties with freedom to make decisions that did not involve Pius XI?

3) Examine as much as possible the details surrounding the Reich Concordat of 1933. Know it well. It will more then likely play a huge part of the trial.

4) As Pope Pius the XII, how did Pacelli deal with WWII? Nazi aggression? Protection of the Vatican? Growing anti-catholic, anti-semetic actions from the Nazi's?

5) In a brief summation (250 words) do you feel that Pacelli, as pope, acted in the best interest of the religious people of Europe (catholics, Jews, etc) or for preservation of his Catholic church? Provide reasoning.
